Hot dogs are great in that at their core they are a highly simple recipe, yet offer so many options and variations that bring a unique taste and feel in their own ways. One American classic that brings the essence of summer is the Coney Island-style hot dog. With this recipe, you may not need to travel to Brooklyn to get a taste of Coney Island anymore.
Ingredients
- 1lb ground beef
- Hot dogs
- Hot dog buns
- ½ cup yellow onion
- 2 ½ tablespoons of chili powder
- 1 tbsp of cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon of celery salt
- 6 oz of tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Yellow mustard
Instructions
- Add ground beef and the yellow onions to a large skillet and cook at medium-high heat. As it cooks, stir the beef until the beef is browned and the onions are soft.
- Stir in chili and cumin powder, salt, celery salt, and garlic powder and cook for 3 more minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Continue until the water boils and then reduce the heat and let simmer for 20 minutes
- Heat oven to 300 degrees while the sauce is simmering for 20 minutes.
- Place hot dog buns in foil and bake for around 10 minutes
- Cook hot dogs in a saucepan with water. Boil the water for another 7-8 minutes.
- Place hot dogs in buns and pour the sauce over the hot dogs.
- Top with more shredded cheese and yellow mustard and enjoy!
