Maryland Crab Cake Recipe

Of all the regional dishes in the United States, none creates as much pride for locals as crab cakes in Maryland. Not only are they a local favorite either, as people from around the world go to Maryland to hit up the best seafood places to get that regional taste. You may not have to travel at all to get the taste, however. You can use this recipe to make delicious Maryland-style crab cakes from the comfort of your kitchen.

Ingredients (Crab Cakes)

  • 1 lb of lump crab meat
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1-2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seafood seasoning
  • ¼ cup of diced celery
  • 1-2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
  • ½ cup of panko seasoning
  • Vegetable or Canola oil

Ingredients (Tartar Sauce)

  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon of pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon of minced red onions
  • 1 ½ tablespoons of lemon juice
  • Salt and ground black pepper

Instructions (Crab Cakes)

  1. Place the baking sheet on aluminum foil.
  2. Stir eggs with mayo, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, parsley, and celery together in a large bowl.
  3. Once stirred, add crab meat and panko.
  4. Fold the egg mixture over the crab mixture with a rubber spatula. Make sure to not crush the crab meat.
  5. Mold mixture into the shape of 6 cakes and place each on the baking sheet.
  6. Refrigerate for an hour.
  7. In medium heat, preheat a nonstick pan and coat with canola or vegetable oil.
  8. Once oil heats, place the crab cakes in the pan and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side.

Instructions (Tartar Sauce)

  1. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, onion, lemon juice, and relish.
  2. Top with salt and pepper once mixed
  3. Chill in the refrigerator for some time.
  4. Serve with the crab cakes and enjoy!
